The Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo held the 2nd Mobile Consular Services in the Maldives and Sri Lanka

The Mobile Consular Services was held for the 2nd time in the fiscal year 2019 from 16 to 19 September 2019 in the Maldives and Sri Lanka by the officials of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo as part of the projects for fiscal year 2019.

The project aims to provide Thai citizens residing in Sri Lanka and the Maldives with relevant consular services such as employment contract attestation and sharing useful consular information concerning the Thai people living abroad.

For this year in particular, the Embassy received kind support and cooperation from Dr. Terdsak Detkong, psychiatrist, Director of International Affairs, the Department of Mental Health of Thailand, who also joined the program to give useful presentation on mental health promotion and meet with the Thai people as well as Thai inmates detained in Sri Lanka for one-to-one consultation. This new initiative aims to promote the happy living and work life of the Thai people who have lived abroad for a long time away from their beloved families.

The Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand attended the 4th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) held in the Maldives


The 4th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) held in the Maldives at Paradise Island Resort from 3 to 4 September 2019 and the main theme for the conference was “Securing the Indian Ocean region: Traditional and Non-Traditional Challenges”.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe and many other ministers and high-ranking officials, including Mrs. Pornpimol Kanchanalak, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand were among those who attended and addressed the conference.

The IOC, which was organized by the India Foundation in association with the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives and S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, was attended by delegates from over 40 countries.

Thai Trade Center held the 4th Thailand Business Matching Forum in the Maldives

The 4th Thailand Business Matching Forum was held in the Maldives at Dharubaaruge on 26 June 2019. The forum is a series of events organized by the Thai Trade Center of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chennai.

Minister of Economic Development Honorable Mr. Fayyaz Ismail inaugurated the forum, where 27 companies from various sectors including food and beverage, domestic appliances, spa products, hotel and others participated and displayed their products. As usual the forum was attended by a large number of business representatives and individuals from the Maldives. The forum is seen as a successful bilateral economic activity that showcases strong confidence and mutual commitment to boost economic cooperation between the two countries.

Ms. Jittima Nakamano, Director of Thai Trade Center, Chennai and the Royal Thai Honorary Consul to Maldives Mr. Ahmed Ali Manik also participated in the forum.

The Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives participated in the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019

Her Excellency Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, participated in the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019, which took place in the Kurum’baa Maldives from 17 to 18 June 2019. The theme of the forum was “Investing in a Resilient and Sustainable Maldives” and the aim was to galvanise action on the Government’s vision of Jazeera Rajje (Island Nation) – where equitable, inclusive and sustainable growth, access to justice and the rule of law prevail.

A total of 133 delegates representing 63 organizations/states attended the forum, where various agreements between Maldives and other nations were also signed with an aim of providing financial aid for local projects and concessional loans.

The Royal Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives officially opens the new Royal Thai Honorary Consulate office in the Maldives

Following the appointment of Mr. Ahmed Ali Manik as the Royal Thai Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Maldives on 10 June 2019, the new office of the Royal Thai Consulate in the Maldives was officially opened on 16 June 2019 by Her Excellency Mrs Chulamanee Chartsuwan, the Royal Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Speaking at the official function held at the new office at 2nd Floor of H. Nereen in Male’, Mr Manik thanked His Excellency President Mr Mohamed Solih and the Maldivian government for accepting his appointment by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua as the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Maldives. He also expressed appreciation for the Maldives Foreign Minister His Excellency Mr Abdulla Shahid in his speech. Mr Manik further said that he is honored to be able to serve the King of Thailand, the Government and the People of Thailand as their Honorary Consulate in the Maldives and he thanked the Ambassador Chulamanee and the Thai Government for the confidence and trust they have placed in him and assured everyone that he will do his best in fulling the functions of the office he holds. He concluded his speech by congratulating both Maldives and Thailand as 21 June 2019 marked the 40th year of relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Chulamanee, in her speech, highlighted the long-standing strong and friendly relations between the two countries that is based on bilateral trade and mutually beneficial socio-economic developments. Ambassador Chulamanee also thanked Mr Manik for working closely with the Embassy and the dedication he has shown in his work and assured him of the Thailand government’s trust and cooperation that will be rendered in executing the functions of the Consulate.
